The International Academy of Architectural Landscape Lighting (IAALL) was established to provide industry standards on all aspects of professionally-installed, low-voltage landscape lighting. The IAALL is dedicated in this capacity to it’s members, lighting professionals and project owners, and communicates it’s aims through a variety of resources. We believe that we have delivered on this promise and through consistently professional work and excellent testimonials; we have become the de-facto industry body in our field.
The strength of the IAALL is in it’s members’ commitment to professionalism and quality products as well as their dedication to an aesthetic approach to the lighting design and installation. Members consist of engineers, architects, designers, contractors and electricians. All of these professionals contribute their expertise and ideas to the development of the academy’s mission: to be the world’s leading source for guidelines, standards of excellence, and education of professional architectural landscape lighting designs and installations.
All IAALL members are personally trained by Nate Mullen and his staff. Each member goes through a structured education that begins with understanding the principles of lighting. Landscape lighting is an art, it begins with the ability to know and understand the various principles of lighting. This includes understanding and knowing how to effectively implement: lighting levels, elements, forms, balance, visual transformations, textures, contrast and dimensional blending. When used correctly, these disparate elements come together to create a harmonious fusion in a cohesive Visionscape.
If you are a project owner and would like the IAALL to send you information about professionally-installed landscape lighting, or would like to be referred to IAALL members in your area, please contact us at 1-877-422-5567.
Nate Mullen Biography
Nate Mullen is the president and founder of the industry body, the International Academt of Architectural Landscape Lighting (IAALL). His illustrious career in landscape lighting was formally launched with the founding of Unique Lighting Systems in 1995. During his time in the field, Nate has installed literally thousands of superlative lighting systems.
Capitalizing on his extensive practical experience, Nate has written three books on the subject of Landscape Lighting:
Trade Secrets of Professional Landscape Lighting
ISBN: 096706340X
(Amazon review: “Nate goes into so much detail it will blow your mind. Yet, he’s so concise that you won’t feel overwhelmed at all. He shares everything from designing, estimating, bidding, landing the job (even how to market specifically to the psyche of the wife or husband), marketing, etc. He shares all of his systems and forms. His approach to landscape lighting is far superior to the way most other manufacturers market it. He will transform the way you think of arranging lights and you’ll never look at it the same. I highly recommend this book. I can’t even see a reason to buy another book on the subject. It’s THAT good.”)
Advanced Trade Secrets of Professional Landscape Lighting
ISBN: 0967063418
(Amazon review: “As a new contractor to the landscape lighting industry I was given Advance Trade Secrets of Professional Landscape Lighting to read and found it to be informational and resourceful. Not only are the fundamentals of lighting spelled out in simple terms but so are sales and marketing. In regards to the legality, article 411-2 of the National Electric Code permits lighting systems to operate at 30 volts or less, well under the 22 volts the MultiMatic transformer mentioned in the book. Overall the book has merit and the system has credibility. Do you think inspectors (who strictly follow the NEC) would continue to permit the installation of an illegal product? No! I encourage anyone seeking to explore landscape lighting to read this book.”)
